CIT (Counselor In Training)
Our CIT (Counselor In Training) program provides weekly one hour therapy sessions for teens between the ages of 13-18 years old. The purpose of the program is to combine traditional social cognition instruction along with practical job and life skills training. Participation can culminate in a fun summer job at our FIT Camp working with the younger kids! FIT CIT uses social modeling by typical peers who are integrated into the program. The program emphasizes goal setting and self-monitoring by teens on their own targeted areas for improvement. Target skills that are worked on throughout the year may include increasing social perspective taking, improving initiation and responding to peers and adults, reading social cues, improving eye contact, improving self-regulation skills, approaching peers appropriately in conversation and play, and understanding the dynamics of building and maintaining friendships.
East Side only: Thursdays from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Ratner School
Please note: Prior to registering for any FIT program, each child must attend a 30 minute consultation, which can be scheduled at our Beachwood office by calling (216)292-7370.
FIT Pre-Teen Scene (by recommendation only)
We know that children's needs vary by many developmental factors, not chronological age alone. For that reason, we strive to create programs around the unique needs of the children and families we serve. We designed the Pre-Teen Scene specifically for kids who are aging out of Elementary FIT but who are not quite ready for the CIT program. This option is available for pre-teens and young teens who will benefit from additional language and behavioral support. Appropriate students are recommended and placed by FIT staff.
East Side only: Saturdays from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm at Ratner School
